By nature, very few of us (approximately 15%) are wired to plan for our aging process, what our care needs will be, and how to pay for it.  Although our law office does provide services to those pre-planners, the information provided in this section is here for those of us you live in the moment and find yourself seeking advice during crisis or emergency.  Once you are no longer able to appropriately care for your loved one or worse yet, become an injured caregiver, or are worn to our wits end by 24-hour caregiving, we are forced to seek help to deal with the situation immediately.

Here are some practical things you need to know:

  1. There are ways to preserve certain assets while getting your spouse or disabled child’s care paid for in Nevada;
  2. There are different categories of Medicaid for the aged, blind, and disabled that have different eligibility criteria.  It is crucial to know what those benefits are, and what category you need to apply for;

In Nevada, placement in a long-term care setting often leads to the necessity to apply for some form of Medicaid assistance.  There is a maze of Medicaid categories, terms and definitions that can frazzle anyone, especially those who are often already worn out from providing care to the loved-on.  Also, you may be inundated with advice from well-intentioned friends and neighbors which have some experience dealing with some form of Medicaid in their own personal lives, but aren’t experts and do not know the system and can cause costly errors if you don’t know the exact rules that apply to your specific situation.  Our office has experience and expertise to give you competent advice you need to provide the assistance you need.  Whether your needs will be met by consulting with our Medicaid expert to assist you in providing a comprehensive analysis to know what you qualify for and how, or hire our consultant on an ongoing basis to follow and help you navigate the process from start to finish, we are here for you.

In our twilight years, we are advised that it is not the appropriate time in our lives to be making risky and aggressive financial investments.  The same should be said when seeking the counsel of any professional to assist you in making decisions to obtain eligibility for assistance to pay for long-term care needs.  You need to find competent, trusted advice, not risky, tricky methods that put what you have worked so hard for, at risk.
